A survey from TWINO and KPMG provides statistics on alternative lending market trends in Europe; says UK alternative lending volumes are four times higher than the rest of Europe; consumer loans account for 72% of online lending in Europe; the European online alternative lending market has grown by 23% since the end of 2015, reaching lending volume of 600 million euros ($623.39 million) as of September 30, 2016; UK has 81% of market share; geographic location across Europe is becoming less of a factor as advanced technologies are the main driver for platform success. The Funding Circle SME Income Fund has doubled its investments with a 142 million British pound ($176 million) fundraising; the fundraising is the result of a new C share offering which will convert to ordinary shares within nine months; the Fund is now valued at over 300 million British pounds ($371 million) and has the capacity to issue approximately 350 million more shares in the next twelve months. Growth Street has originated over $67.44 million since its launch in November 2016 with a new CEO and two new executive hires; the firm has now reported 600 new investors on the platform in the five months since its launch; Growth Street provides financing for UK SMEs; the short term financing options appear to be a factor attracting investors; the platform matches borrowers and lenders for 30 days and also allows investors to withdraw funds with notice of 30 days. Funding Circle has reported cumulative originations of over 2 billion British pounds in P2P loans since its launch in 2010; it is the largest online marketplace for small business loans and has been originating approximately 100 million British pounds a month since November; its cumulative loan originations are currently just slightly less than Zopa which surpassed 2 billion British pounds in January and was the industry's first platform to launch in 2005. Originations for Assetz Capital reached a new high in November; for the month, the platform originated 26 million British pounds bringing its total originations to 100 million British pounds for 2016; according to the firm, it is now the third largest business and property P2P lender in the UK. P2P Global Investments' shares fell 20.7% on the London Stock Exchange in 2016; the fund's portfolio manager Simon Champ provides some insight on the fund's performance; the underlying assets reported a lower than expected 4.1% return due to increased delinquencies from loans at the midpoint of their duration; hedging costs have also been a factor with approximately 60% of US loans in the portfolio; as the investable market expands the fund is likely to increase its investment in European loans to help diversify away from currency risks. The Ranger Direct Lending Fund has reported plans for share issuance totaling 200 million British pounds through 2017; the Fund currently has a 40 million British pound issuance planned for December; it also raised 30 million British pounds in July and 23.2 million British pounds in November of 2016; according to a statement from Ranger Direct Lending, "The company believes that debt instruments originated or issued by direct lending platforms are an attractive and growing asset class that have the potential to provide higher returns for investors than other, more widely available, fixed income products."; growth from the asset class and potential returns are factors driving the new issuances.
