Video of the Week: Investor Perspective-Investing Through a Downturn

We had an all-star panel of the pioneer fund managers at LendIt 2016 to discuss how to prepare their portfolio for a market downturn. The managers were beginning to see greater dispersion in returns and started to question whether a downturn was coming. However, as we have seen, the bull market continued its historic rise throughout the year. Nevertheless, it was great to hear firsthand from these managers on how they stay prepared for a market correction.  Source

Emerging Artificial Intelligence Wealth Management Solutions

Artificial intelligence (AI) solutions are emerging in the wealth management space as a rival for robo advice; AI solutions are providing more sophisticated investment portfolio options than robo advisors using machine learning data optimization capabilities; there are a number of AI solutions supporting investment management that are already being used broadly within wealth management including Watson, Alladin, Kensho and Sqreem; these artificial intelligence systems and others under development have the capability to develop investing portfolios based on a range of technological data inputs while also using machine learning to analyze, interpret and act on information obtained from various sources such as news articles and social media; it's predicted that these AI solutions could evolve into offering more robust portfolio advice directly for retail investors.  Source

Ranger Direct Lending Fund Raises 40% of Target

Ranger Direct Lending Fund raised close to $20 million of the $50 million target it set out to raise through a placing of C shares; in 2015 the fund was looking to raise $169 million but pulled the offering and then raised $17 million; though the fundraise fell short, Numis Securities anticipated the Fund would have issues as the shares are trading at 5% discount.  Source

CreditEase Announces First Close of Israel Innovation Fund

CreditEase Wealth Management announced the first close of their second fund dedicated to investing in Israeli tech startups; the amount raised was $32.2 million; final target for the fund is $50 million; the focus of investments will include virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital healthcare, internet of things technology, cloud and data storage, and advanced manufacturing.  Source

Prospect Marketplace Lending Corp. Files Form 40-APP for Multiple Share Classes

In October 2016, Prospect Marketplace Lending Corp. filed an N-8A and an N-2 indicating the company's investment status and plans for managing a closed-end fund investing 80% of the assets in marketplace lending investments; the firm has now filed a Form 40-APP; the Form 40-APP requests permission to offer multiple share classes, each with its own fee and expense structure.  Source

CreditEase Wealth Management Wins Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Product Award

The Asian Banker has awarded CreditEase Wealth Management with its first Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Product award; the award was part of the Asian Banker's awards program which has been recognizing financial services companies for 16 years; voting was done by an advisory board using detailed criteria to identify the non-bank with the best solutions for meeting the needs of high net worth customers by matching their risk profiles and investment objectives; CreditEase's CEO Ning Tang said its wealth planners focus on cross-border, cross-regional portfolios with multi-asset classes for clients and that its Toumi RA robo advisor service was created to help clients evaluate and minimize risks with a scientific portfolio.  Source

The Victory Park Capital Specialty Lending Fund has sold its Funding Circle loans; as of October 31, the Funding Circle loans accounted for 7.7% of the portfolio's net asset value; the sale follows the company's announcement to reallocate its portfolio to more of a balance sheet strategy.  Source

Closed-End Marketplace Lending Fund, P2PGI, Continues Share Buybacks

According to a report by AltFi, P2P Global Investments (P2PGI) is continuing their share buybacks; P2PGI has purchased shares on 14 days in the past two months with buybacks ranging from 3,400 to 50,000; the fund currently trades at a 25.3% discount to net asset value; contributing factors to recent performance have been cash drag from currency hedging, level of defaults and volatility surrounding Brexit.  Source
