George Bowen is the COO at Step, a next generation banking platform giving Gen Z the tools they need to reach financial independence at an earlier age. Since its public launch in late 2020, Step has already amassed more than 3 million customers. In his role overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations and strategic business initiatives, George has helped Step grow from its inception, offering democratized access to key financial products and serving as the first bank account for 86% of teen customers. With nearly 20 years of experience creating positive disruption through technology, George has helped several companies scale their growth and monetization strategies. Before Step, he was a founding member and the head of business development at Gyft, disrupting the gift card industry with its first fully mobile and digital platform. George also spent several years at Clear Channel Media & Entertainment where he helped launch and lead the nation’s top direct advertising team. An avid entrepreneur and investor, he began his career by building his own relationship based investment firm to help connect investors to key real estate development deals in the early 2000s. George holds a degree in business marketing from California State University – Long Beach when he focused on digital marketing and economics.
