Jeffrey Bower is a digital financial services and payments expert, determined to accelerate the use of innovative digital financial services around the world to win the fight against cash. Deeply familiar with partner interests and incentives across complex payments ecosystems, Jeffrey has over 15 years’ experience driving leadership in digital payments, where has authored national strategies, developed country payment schemes, launched new fintech businesses, influenced national policy and financial services regulations. He has enabled the scalable and profitable use of digital payments, reducing the use of cash and achieving financial inclusion in countries all over the world.
Jeffrey is currently a Senior Investment Officer for the International Finance Corporation (part of the World Bank Group) where he is responsible for developing innovative investment opportunities capable of scaling the use of digital financial services. Prior to this, Jeffrey served as Payment Services Lead for the United Nations’ World Food Programme, driving the design of ScopeCard, the organization’s in-house refugee payment service. In 2011, Jeffrey founded Bower & Partners, a digital payment consulting practice that has delivered work for the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, the Better Than Cash Alliance, Scotiabank, HSBC and for a number of national payments switches and fintech platforms.
Jeffrey has a Masters from the University of Toronto’s Munk Centre for Global Affairs and speaks English, Spanish and French. He has built effective teams in the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
