Keeping Attendees Safe

In-person LendIt Fintech LatAm attendees must be vaccinated.

The health and safety of our community has always been the highest priority for us. Now it’s taking center stage as we return to hosting in-person events.

For this reason, we hired EPISTEMIX, a leading science and technology company that specializes in building agent-based models, to simulate the impact of hosting our upcoming LendIt Fintech LatAm 2021 event in-person and help us make key decisions about onsite protocols.

EPISTEMIX software simulates everything from the impact of mask wearing, social distancing, and up-to-date levels of vaccination coverage at events, as well as vaccination coverage in the local area of the event and where attendees come from, so that show organizers and public health officials can make policy decisions with confidence.

In addition to working with show organizers, EPISTEMIX has partnered with schools, sports stadiums, public and private businesses and government agencies. Some of their clients include the NY Javits Center, the State of Indiana, the World Health Organization, and the University of Pittsburgh.

LendIt Fintech LatAm Event model findings:
  • Reflecting our current policy that requires all of our event attendees to be fully vaccinated, the model predicts that approximately .003 of our attendees will contract COVID-19
  • The model predicts that 70% of the local population of Miami (81% of those eligible) will be vaccinated by the time of the event
  • The model predicts that cases will rise in November leading up to the event before they drop again in early December

Conclusion:

Based on the demographics of our attendees, the local epidemic conditions, and the safety protocols enacted over the last year, the data shows that our event can and should take place without additional precautionary protocols.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to make vaccination mandatory for all LendIt Fintech LatAm participants.

Additionally, we are enacting the following health and safety practices:

  • All networking tables will be 3-6 feet apart
  • Event capacity will be limited to avoid overcrowding
  • Air purification systems will be installed
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be abundant and easily accessible
  • When possible social events will take place outdoors or have an outdoor component
